Renunciation of Citizenship

The Renunciation of Citizenship is a lengthy process which may take up to 6 months or more to complete. The process requires documentation and verification, failing which considerable delay can happen. Therefore, please read the requirements and process given below before starting the renunciation process:
A.Documents Required
- In Person Application
- Please bring duly filled Renunciation Forms (click here to download)
- Original CNIC/NICOP (Please refer to process given below)
- NADRA’s CNIC/NICOP cancellation process with proof of payment
- Original Pakistani passport(s).
- Proof of US Citizenship/Nationality
- US state issued ID
- 07 Passport size photographs.
- Any additional, relevant / supporting documents required by the Consulate
- Fee-US$ 300
Note: 4 sets of copies of the above documents will be required
B.Minors
The cases of applicants below 21 will not be processed separately. Minors living abroad with their parents can only apply with the renunciation application of the father. In addition to the above documents, Birth Certificate/CNIC/NICOP/Pakistan Passport(s) of the minor will be required. Minor children residing in Pakistan should not be included in renunciation forms.
C.Process
- Renunciation process cannot be initiated if the applicant is not holder of CNIC/NICOP.
- To obtain CNIC/NICOP, please visit Pak ID app / Consulate’s website or you can also apply at NADRA Facilitation Desk in the Consulate General.
- The applicant must initiate CNIC/NICOP cancellation and provide proof of payment. For CNIC/NICOP cancellation, please apply through Pak ID app / Consulate’s website or the applicant can also apply at NADRA Facilitation Desk in the Consulate General.
- Once the cancellation process is initiated, the dashboard will show the message “Deferred”.
- The CNIC/NICOP cancellation receipt along with above mentioned document(s) at ‘A’ above will be submitted in the Consulate.
- The case will be forwarded to the concerned authorities for the processing. Once the Renunciation Certificate is ready, the applicant will be notified and provided a copy of the same to complete the CNIC/NICOP cancellation process.
- Original Renunciation Certificate will be handed over to the applicant after the surrender of all Pakistan issued IDs (both valid & expired) at the Consulate,
- For checking the status of your application, please send an email at: immigration@dgip.gov.pk after three months of submission of your application.
